Adanac Circle is one of a number of Circles that are part of the Ontario Branch of the International Order of The King’s Daughters and Sons – a Christian service organization with members in both the United States and Canada.
The Circle’s name Adanac is derived from spelling the word Canada backwards.
The Circle was established in 1968 and members meet eight or nine times each year. The Circle members do outreach projects throughout the year such as making sandwiches for the Ottawa Mission; making pillowcase dresses for girls at risk in third world countries; making donations to the Sleeping Bag Ministry at Trinity Bible Church; donating toiletries to Centre 507 in Ottawa; and filling shoe boxes for the Operation Christmas Child project for Samaritan’s Purse.
Fundraising activities include: an annual berry sale, book sales at meetings, a Silent Auction at the December meeting, and selling tickets to the Upper Canada Playhouse in Morrisburg.
In 2004, Adanac Circle established a scholarship bursary fund to honour all Adanac Circle members who have passed away. The bursary is for a scholarship at St. Paul’s University in Ottawa.
